Marco Polo looks on as a rare bank note surfaces in eBay. Someone with a gripe about the inflation of the Italian currency in 1990 took to their typewriter and carefully overprinted a diatribe ....in english and italian, too!!

An unknown number of such notes must have been printed. The watermark is clear so it was not a forgery: indeed, the value of a 1000 lire at that time must have been the reason for buying up some crisp new notes and then overprinting the story ...

"May your money get you into perdition."

If any reader knows anything about such use of cheap bank notes to make a political point......
