I suggest a possible future use of the Hippodrome as a multi-purpose venue for conferences, events, theatre, cabaret, night club, disco, exhibitions, even circuses and large scale pantomimes or theatrical productions which our Theatre Royal cannot accommodate.

The London Hippodrome was great to visit in the late 50s and 60s. I saw Eartha Kitt there singing Love for Sale, Santa Baby and other hits.

At that time, one could have dinner, watch the cabaret and then use the stage as a dance floor. It fell out of fashion when the novelty wore off, but it is so long ago that a re-incarnation may do very well in Brighton.

I was privileged to visit the Brighton Hippodrome while it was in use by Mecca as a bingo hall. We were shown round the whole building and I was impressed by how well Mecca looked after it even if I didn’t much care for the decorations.
