Regular commuters know that not a day goes by without delay on our railways.

It’s either an infrastructure issue (signalling or electrical supply problems), or an issue caused by the train operating companies (train malfunction, unavailable drivers).

Year after year we have to put up with above-inflation and above-wage-rise fare increases.

And year after year we’re told that this is to help pay for record investment in our rail network. However, year after year the service gets worse and worse.

Perhaps there is record investment in our railways. But it appears to be being spent on grand infrastructure projects like Crossrail, HS2 or the Thameslink Project.

The day-to-day running of the network is neglected. How else can you explain the constant signalling problems.

It does feel like the rail network is falling apart at the seams. If you don’t believe me pick a random day and take a look at the Twitter feed of one of our train operating companies (either Southern or Thameslink).

You will be shocked at the countless number of delays and cancellations.

The weather has been relatively kind over the autumn and winter so far. Just wait until the weather takes a turn for the worse and see how the network can’t cope. The rail service is an utter disgrace.
