It would appear that the city council is to debate the future of the King Alfred Leisure Centre, pictured above, shortly.
The city councillors and executives appear to have lost sight of the fact that the first call on the council tax is to provide basic amenities for the population of the city. Some of the basic amenities are the provision of free public toilets and leisure facilities for residents.
The King Alfred building is a reasonably structurally sound building, which might require a little updating, but certainly does not require demolition. The present building is the main leisure centre in the city.
Are the councillors prepared to take away all these facilities from the residents and still take the council tax from them?
If the Green Party still wishes to demolish the King Alfred Centre and take away all these leisure activities from the city residents then the city residents should vote all the Green councillors off the Council on May 7.
If the other parties on the council also wish to take away these facilities from the city residents they should state their views before the election and the city residents can then vote them off the council on May 7 too.
