The discourse on reopening the Lewes to Uckfield line rumbles on with still no sensible arguments in favour.

Why a reader thinks it would ease congestion by providing a new route to London defies imagination.

When the direct route from Brighton to London is closed, Lewes to London is the only option.

Going to Uckfield would be a bigger detour than going via Littlehampton which generally adds one hour. The obvious sensible line to re-open is clearly Shoreham to Horsham.

There are no huge obstacles to this and for residents of Portslade to Worthing, this could actually be quicker than the current journey to London.

This would be so successful, it would be followed by extending this to Guildford thus also providing a direct route to Reading and a host of other destinations which are, at the moment, complicated and time consuming, most of them necessitating London Underground travel.

Enough of this Lewes to Uckfield nonsense. Let us have a Shoreham to Horsham line again.
