Where are all the current Green Party councillors disappearing to?

I’ve just had a look at the councillors who are in the current administration and who are again standing at this election.

Seems the Green councillors are not in it for the long run with only nine out of the existing 20 standing again, (Leo Littman, Lizzie Dean, Pete West, Alex Phillips, Phelim Mac Cafferty, Geoffrey Bowden, Stephanie Powell, Sue Shanks, Ollie Sykes.

I thought the Green party was in this for the long run, but with Jason Kitcat saying he’s leaving politics after only one term and the roads planner guy off to pastures new, one wonders what state the Green Party is really in?

Having been so naive in its first term, one might have thought they had learnt some lessons and gained some experience that they wanted to retain. But no, it seems they are all deserting.

Whereas the other parties all have well over 70% standing again – the Conservatives are fielding 13 of their 18 existing councillors, Labour are fielding 10 out of 13 existing and the one of each UKIP and Independents are both up for re-election.

Thus to my mind it seems very odd that so many Green councillors have called it quits and are leaving politics after just one term, or are they simply afraid, knowing that they don’t have much of a chance of being re-elected after the shambles of the last five years?
