On retuning from a week’s holiday in France last weekend, I was delighted to see that Transmanche had put a second ferry on the Newhaven-Dieppe route. The French are also extending the Rouen to Dieppe dual carriageway across country to the port, including the building of a very expensive viaduct, thus demonstrating their continued support for the route.
Unfortunately, this support does not appear to extend across the channel to the South of England – the lunchtime ferry from Dieppe last Sunday had very few passengers, the return crossing had even fewer. No ferry operator can survive with this level of custom – use the service, or lose it.
