THERE is nothing wrong with the principle of the bus lanes, especially those serving the universities.

What is wrong with it is that it is only half of a scheme that is designed to keep traffic out of the city centre.

Park and ride should have been introduced as part of bus lanes. As any fool can tell you, park and ride is a green policy as it keeps private traffic out of the city centre.

The other problem is that we are trying to solve a transport system within the limits of the city, where a ‘greater’ city would give us scope for a park and ride sites without the handicap of having two other councils interfering, ie. East and West Sussex Councils.

What is amazing is that the football club can run a successful park and ride but all parties on the council can not.
