YOUR headline about a reprieve for the ranger service couldn’t be further from the truth.

It appears that you have swallowed the council spin hook, line and sinker (Argus, February 5).

A story issued, it would seem, to try to reduce the size of the protest at the policy and resources committee on Thursday (3.15pm outside the Brighthelm for anyone who can make it).

In the article you give the impression that seven rangers will now be kept but this is not true.

One of those seven is a manager whose job was never threatened.

Another of the seven appears to have been brought in from another area to hide the true level of cuts.

From what we can see in the council papers, which are not consistent, we will only be left with five rangers, out of a team of nine, representing a 45 per cent cut.

Hardly a reprieve and still a decimation of a service which has a value far greater than the small number of people employed within it.
