So, binmen from Adur and Worthing have been studying to pass their exams in waste management (The Argus, August 15). I congratulate them gaining their NVQs in waste management level 2.
I have nothing against binmen, who do a thankless job and do it well. I do, however, have a problem with their bosses and managers who create the idiotic bureaucracy which means the binmen are not able to take all the rubbish which I leave out.
Last week, because it had been my son’s birthday, we had a surplus of paper and packaging. I recycled as much as possible but there was still too much rubbish left over to fit into my inadequately sized wheelie bin.
It annoys me that in circumstances like this the binmen are not allowed to take additional bags of rubbish. When I have asked them why, they tell me it is because they don’t have the capacity to complete their round if they take additional bags. Why not just carry on until their bin lorry is full and then start again at that point the next day?
