Responding to Peter Bailey and his letter about the viaduct supporting The Volks Electric Railway (Letters, May 15), many photographs taken by Jack Turley in 1938 confirm the tracks running across sections of beach before the shingle arose to the higher levels we see today.

Both at the two-platform 1930’s Aquarium Station and at Paston Place you could see the timber pillars and beam structures.

There was an underpass giving access to the beach leading to the amusement arcade and Boating Pool.

Both Peter Bailey and Jack Turley, amongst others, provided recorded memories about Brighton’s trams and Volks Railway in 2001 and they are now held at the Brighton Museum for future generations.
