Jamie Theakstone would be outraged, Terry Garoghan would think it's a joke in very poor taste and Caroline Lucas probably doesn't have a clue about it. But Quentin Delahunty's (not Delia Hunt as reported in some quarters) remarkably ill informed blog questioning if Brighton and Hove needs its football club, has caused the outrage the author intended.

Sensational, outstanding, brilliant,a fantastic group of players, we will win this league. Those are the comments Nigel Adkins has made about Southampton so far this season. This is the Southampton who are currently just 16 points behind the Albion in League 1, not forgetting of course their game in hand.

On Saturday I am going to Watford via Littlehampton and Horsham. Or I could get a bus to Crawley, but my mother tells me I haven’t had all my inoculations! Not really of course. Crawley is lovely and the bus goes to Three Bridges actually.

100 hundred years ago today on a Monday evening in fact our very own Brighton and Hove Albion beat the then Football League champions to win the FA Charity shield.
