At last something to write home about - or just something to write about.

At around 4.30 on the 13th of this month I was going to pen a blog with the title along the lines of ‘bootiful’. Sadly by five to five that had changed to ‘life’s not bootiful’.

It didn’t happen of course. My favourite crayon broke anyway.

Then I was all set for ‘Murray Leeds the way’ I even started the first paragraph on my phone. Talk about the bloggers' curse.

Finally on Tuesday evening the Albion gave us all something to shout about. I almost didn’t go. I had to plead, beg and change nappies all day to ensure my right of passage.

What I witnessed was a world away from the performances against Orient, Millwall and even Colchester.

Stunning goals for Inigo Calderon and Elliot Bennett and another superb performance from captain Croft, gave Albion their first win at the Valley, since Gary O’Reilly scored inside a minute on New Year’s day 1985. I was still fretting about my mock O’level results. That’s the much harder version of GCSE’s kids!

The Brighton boys, Elphick and El Abd also gave assured performances , and as much as I love Michel Kuipers, I was impressed by Peter Brezovan’s aerial authority.

Now Nicky Forster is back in favour, he appears to have lost none of his appetite, and this was apparent at Charlton. However the amount of former regulars out of favour is stunning. I saw Dean Cox ambling around Churchill Square as I performed my desperate to please husband duties, around 2.30 on Tuesday afternoon. Poor old Andrew Whing can’t even appear to get into Churchill Square let alone the match day squad. Mickey Adams initial superstar 'these lads will get us into the Championship' singings have all but gone. Both Livermore and McLeod given free transfers in January.Colin Hawkins is still injured. I anticipate his initial meeting with Poyet will be like the closing scene in The Great Escape.

Of course Mickey Adams desperate, 'these lads will keep us up' signings Craig Davies and Jimmy McNulty also don’t appear to be in Gus Poyets thoughts, especially Davies who is regularly scoring whilst on loan at Port Vale with er... Mickey Adams. Sadly Gus seems to have lost patience with McNulty's perennial quest for full fitness and he seldom appears in favour nowadays.

Even better than that, Liam Dickinson, signed for a reputed £300,000, has gone on loan to Peterborough. James Tunnicliffe, signed for a reputed £100,000, has gone on loan to MK Dons, and Jake Wright, also signed for a reputed £100,000, is being borrowed by Oxford. The last three players mentioned were all signed by Russell Slade, who himself, has not resurfaced in a manager’s job since leaving the Albion. Why would he though? He’s still being paid to manage Brighton until 2011!

Finally and slightly off topic now I have been surprised to hear and read how disappointed some who considered themselves the city’s spokespersons are that Brighton hasn’t been shortlisted for the next UK Capital of Culture.

In my opinion, if culture means poncing through North Laine, eating a gluten free flapjack, and making wild gesticulated observations about a shop that sells vegetarian shoes, then Brighton should be UK City of Culture every year.

However if Culture is meant to represent art, (and I don't mean a few crusties on Muesli Mountain with their etch a sketch once a year), scholarly pursuits and architecture, then Norwich or even Plymouth are far more likely candidates.

Perhaps someone in the council is going to start a ‘Culture Fun Park’, filled with painting by numbers, exhibits of local celebrities, and forged Phoebe Hessel letters?

See you after Exeter !
