The Albion of course only need to win the FA Cup to enter the Europa League , United need to over haul five point gap to take 5th place, just to get into the Europa League, or they could of course just win 'The Champions League'

Poyet, the 8th most famous Uruguayan in the world turned up at the Albion in November 2009 with one target,to get the club to the Championship in time for the first league game at Falmer. Once during a press conference his watch alarm went off, quick as a flash, he quipped, ''don't worry it's not my heart''

.......if the Albion make the play-off final it will be exactly thirty years and one day since the 1983 Cup Final replay and 21 years, eleven months, 3 weeks and 6 days since their last appearance at Wembley

Name some one famous from Hangleton. Dear old Dave Sexton? The jockey Ian Mongan? Peter Ward once upon a time. One can beat all of those. Dean Saunders probably the famous man ever to live in Hangleton. Well Hangleton Road anyway

Tell any Albion fan at 3:55pm on the 3rd May 1997 that in 16 years time the club would be four wins from the Premier League and playing regularly in front of 28,000 at home in Brighton, they would have laughed sarcastically in your face and had you sectioned.

I went to see the Albion Reserves/U21’S/Development Squad, last Monday. Alright, I went to see the Albion players who seldom make the first team play their Swansea counterparts at the Amex. I haven’t been to an Albion reserve type match since then ‘reserves’ played Plymouth at Worthing in 2003. Actually, it’s a long way to come, all the way from Devon (almost Cornwall) for a reserve match, especially at Worthing and the only reason I went was because Paul Kitson was due to make yet another return from injury for the Seagulls.

There could be more people at the Amex Stadium than at on Friday night, than voted the Green Council in Fiveways Village. That’s what they call it up there. The visit of Sheffield Wednesday could eclipse the 25,030 that crammed into the Goldstone in March 1983 (research see, research) to see the Albion take on Liverpool.

While the club is right to promote inclusivity at the football, there’s one place where a bit of segregation is actually quite important.

The Saturday before the Cheltenham Festival in 1997, Brighton & Hove Albion were staring oblivion in the face, not at the foot of the queue at Alton Towers, but in reality at the foot of the old League 2.

We thought thrashing Leyton Orient Five Nil on News Years Day was good, and it was it’s always fun to thrash O’s. They were of course a rival a few years ago; My point is the curve of 2011 just went up and up for Albion fans. It usually goes up a little or even quite high like 1983, then comes down quite drastically, relegation or threat of expulsion from the league that sort of thing.

He didn’t win for nine games on the spin.

Jamie Theakstone would be outraged, Terry Garoghan would think it's a joke in very poor taste and Caroline Lucas probably doesn't have a clue about it. But Quentin Delahunty's (not Delia Hunt as reported in some quarters) remarkably ill informed blog questioning if Brighton and Hove needs its football club, has caused the outrage the author intended.

After 20 years competitively speaking the Albion finally get the chance to avenge their 1991 defeat in the FA Cup 4th Round replay at the hands of then League Champions Liverpool.

If you’re an Albion fan on Saturday morning you’re having a fairly pleasant dream, top of the entire Football League a 22,500 capacity sell out cup tie against Liverpool next week and still awaiting one of Spain’s greatest ever players to be unveiled in the midfield.

We’d all thought for years what it might be like, if it ever happened!

Sensational, outstanding, brilliant,a fantastic group of players, we will win this league. Those are the comments Nigel Adkins has made about Southampton so far this season. This is the Southampton who are currently just 16 points behind the Albion in League 1, not forgetting of course their game in hand.

On Saturday I am going to Watford via Littlehampton and Horsham. Or I could get a bus to Crawley, but my mother tells me I haven’t had all my inoculations! Not really of course. Crawley is lovely and the bus goes to Three Bridges actually.

100 hundred years ago today on a Monday evening in fact our very own Brighton and Hove Albion beat the then Football League champions to win the FA Charity shield.

I managed to get a press area pass for Saturday’s game. It’s at hut well that’s not entirely fair it’s a about three huts and a press box full of wires and lap tops, mixed together with lots of people who look furtively like they shouldn’t be there.

Well, the important results for Brighton Pavilion are in. I am not sure who the returning officer is going to be, Terry Garoghan, Simon ‘I am a Brightonian I am’ Fanshawe, or Tony Bloom? But just in case none of them turn up, I’ll do it. The results of the quiz from the bloke who is supposed to do the Albion blog, are set as follows. In Miss World order (highly appropriate when you consider the candidates did not respond): Nigel Carter UKIP 4th, Berni Millam 0 (Berni couldn’t find the time to compete), Nancy Platts 9 - a decent effort, Caroline Lucas...sorry Dr Caroline Lucas MEP14, and the winner with 18 out 20; the duly announced Pavilion Ward pre-Easter quiz champion, the almost thatcheresq Charlotte Vere. Thanks to all for being good sports.

I have decided to go a little off topic this week, and with the budget announced for March 24, have a look at the political picture in my part of Brighton. It is likely Gordon Brown’s confidant Mr Mandelson might tell him the most advantageous time to announce the bloody battle of General Election is, May 6th ..... Probably. It is apparent; Messer’s Cameron and Brown will be paraded live on TV in a US style election debate scenario, with possibly David Dimbleby in middle with bow tie and dress shirt, to make these discussions truly memorable bouts. I expect Nick Clegg might be allowed to shout contradicting statements from the wings.

Aston is a relatively small suburb of Birmingham a bit bigger than Patcham probably. Although there are a number of differences. Aston doesn't have a Duck Fair or a railway tunnel. However it does have a station and one of the most famous football teams in the world.

Following the exciting FA Cup draw at the weekend, in which the Albion were paired Premiership giants Aston Villa, it’s been non-stop talk about tickets, and when they’ll be released and who will get priority etc.

This was supposed to be a review of the Brentford match. But Brighton & Hove council neglected to grit the Withdean pitch. So a Saturday afternoon talking to wives or girlfriends, sorry I mean partners, had to be endured by many.

It started with Brighton born Darren Freeman scoring the first goal of the new millennium and ended with Glenn Murray scoring 4 away from home.

This won't take long. Friday's game was uninspiring, and not very thought provoking. So,I am saving it all up for a supa dupa review of the last 10 years and a humorous (that'll be a first) review of the Orient match. Right here, sometime after the in laws have gone home on Boxing day. So hopefully from about 4.30pm. Seasons Greetings and many thanks for all the reads and the messages so far.

I could have got to Withdean almost as late as I did last Saturday. No more than 30 seconds after kick off our cherub like referee awarded Charlton a free kick. Whilst we awaited this to taken a Charlton player and Adam El Abd appeared to tussle on the edge of the penalty area, what happened next was almost brilliant.

Brighton and Hove Albion have sensationally asked the Football Association to give them the FA Cup. Over 26 years since they should have one it. Early last week whilst eating a 5th helping of paella former Albion striker Mike Robinson suddenly remembered that Manchester United defender Gordon McQueen called him a 'Nancy boy' during the last minute of extra time in the 1983 FA Cup Final. The shock of this, caused Robinson to accidentally pass the ball to Gordon Smith, who from 1 yard out pansied the ball to keeper Gary Bailey. Robinson stated at Soho Square today that he would have scored with out doubt had he not been verbally molested. The FA are said to be taking this claim very seriously.
