Sometimes, runners can be really rude. It doesn't happen very often, but every now and then, another runner will annoy me to the point where I want to chase after them and telling them to get over themselves.

Case in point: I was out on Saturday morning, running a 17 miler. I was in a good mood, things were going well and my feet were feeling strong, despite the damp conditions. I was smiling, nodding, waving or giving a thumbs up to every runner I passed and was getting similar gestures in return.

Occasionally, one wouldn't reply, either because they weren't paying attention or were in "the zone". I can understand that and that's fine. Then, I spotted another runner heading towards me. He was a serious looking guy, but I smiled, gave him a thumbs up and in return he looked me up and down, rolled his eyes and shook his head.

Now fair enough I am not a conventional looking runner. I'm covered in tattoos, my shorts have a skull n' crossbones pattern, I occasionally sport a mohichan haircut and I don't wear running shoes. But I still consider myself a runner (not a jogger, I hate that term, it sounds painful).

I may not be the fastest, but I really enjoy running and I do it as much as I can so why not just smile and wave back? it doesn't take much and we all like to feel good about what we are doing, you never know you could make someone's day.

Luckily it only bothered me for a minute or so as I then passed a group of women who all smiled, waved and pointed at my feet. I picked up after that and finished my run adding on another mile to make 18 in total just because I felt like it.

This weekend I will be doing my 20 miler on Saturday then on Sunday my fellow London marathoner Mark is driving us out to Hastings to support our friends Jo and Urzsula in the half marathon. And I will be cheering everybody else on too...
