So this is my first blog post for The Argus, and I’m here to blog about the music scene in the area that The Argus covers.

I’m the owner, producer and creative force behind the FC Music Project, a one-stop service for bands. We take care of everything from recording to merchandise, but my favourite part of the job is working with unsigned, undiscovered bands. You know, the ones that always seem to get overlooked even though they’re a million miles better than a lot of stuff that Radio 1 try and force on you.

But where do I go to find these unsung heroes of the Brighton music scene? Well, that is my dilemma. I really have run out of ideas. There are so many gigs to choose from each night, so many different bands, plus MySpace search is awful and can’t seem to find me anything other than Lady Gaga and Dragonforce.

I really have no answer to that question, and my blogs will explore the music industry from this point of view and will offer advice to bands that are trying to break in to the scene and get somewhere. I’ll be scouting various bands, venues and gigs both by being there myself and by word of mouth then checking up on them myself. I’ll review promoters, bands and venues so bands know where to go and where they will get the best deal.

I will also welcome bands to contact me at any point should they need advice. You can follow me on Twitter @ForbesColeman and @FCMusicProject but make sure you read the blog regularly for helpful advice on Sussex’s music scene. And if you have any tips for up and coming bands, please let me know in the comments section.

So that’s it for my introductory blog entry; I’ll be back with more in a week’s time!
