On Saturday night we saw some comedy with a difference. It was a sing-a-long and it was all about Brighton.

Terry Garoghan was performing at the Dome. We didn’t know what to expect, but were quite looking forward to an evening of Brighton based jokes and as for the sing-a-long part, well we didn’t know what was going to be in store!

The show started and the sing-a-long, well it was just that. He played popular tunes and swapped the words so that they were Brighton-based and had them karaoke style on the big screen behind him so you could join in if you wanted.

He went through all the different areas of Brighton and Hove, using stereotypes to describe what sort of people lived there which was all very amusing for the first half but unfortunately when he started the second half, the jokes were still the same.

While I enjoyed the show, there’s so much more Brighton-ness he could have brought into the show. He briefly mentioned some of the characters you see around which he could have expanded on and he didn’t touch upon any of the many festivals/pubs/tourist attractions of which I am sure hide many more jokes.

While it was good I have to admit I was a little disappointed and thought it was more suited to being performed in a small venue as part of the Fringe Festival.
