Christmas is over; everyone’s sick at the thought of any more food or drink; wallets are empty and it is still cold - it must be dreary January. So I thought I would start a list of free and fun things to get you out of bed this month:

Free: Royal Pavilion open day

On the Sunday, January 16, the Royal Pavilion is open for free. This happens annually to celebrate Brighton’s purchase of the Pavilion in 1850. If you have not been already, it is definitely worth a visit-not being a fan of just looking round old homes, I waited until almost a year before I took the tour of the seaside home of king George IV. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting it was and how the décor and the audio tour transports you to the past, really bringing the building to life.

Fun: Outdoors ice skating

If you haven’t heard already, you much be a visitor to Brighton, as most people must know or have seen the outdoor ice rink that has been erected in the Royal Pavilion gardens. If you have not braved the ice and grabbed a mini penguin to help steady yourself already, then get your skates on as the rink is only open until 16th January.

Free: Get Crafty

If you are feeling more creative, Beads Unlimited has free workshops throughout the year. These sessions cover learning techniques such as learning the basics of knotted jewellery or learning how to make things such as beaded bag charms. See all the courses and book by placing a (refundable) £5 deposit via beadsunlimited.co.uk

Free: Bees Mouth Jazz Forum

Well sort of free depending of in you have a drink or two! Every Monday the Bees Mouth holds a jazz jamming session. I haven’t been to one yet, but have heard that it a cool evening, attracting a range of different people to the cooky venue and also that the bar sells a good assortment of beers which always goes down well!
