It’s official. Mad Men, the critically acclaimed television drama about an ad agency in the 1960s, has spawned a fashion fever which is sweeping the nation. The prim lady-like 1960’s pieces featured in the show are simply too hard to resist.

The show focuses on the young copy writers, account executives and busy assistants that work at fictional ad agency Sterling Cooper in New York. In terms of outfits think cute gloves, prim and proper dresses with cinched in waists, dainty kitten heels, polished oxfords and fedoras.

The trend is currently causing a stir not only on the red carpet (mainly because of Christina Hendricks', aka Joan Holloway’s, gorgeous curves) but also within the catwalk-world. It’s pretty safe to say that this will be reflected at London Fashion Week (this weekend) in many new collections which will be seen to draw on inspiration from the 50s and 60s.

Here are the four key trends from the show to look out for…

The Joan Holloway

It’s a damn shame that we can't all be as perfectly proportioned as Joan Holloway, but choosing a sexy sheath dress will pull you in and push you out in all the right places, creating a very feminine contour.

Figure hugging and flattering, sheath dresses are usually made from a light material and end at the knee or lower thigh – perfect for work to evening glamour. ASOS, Next and Whistles are the best places to look for these on the high street.

The Peggy Olsen

For a smart look around the office, you can't go wrong with a simple pencil skirt. Team with cute-as-a-button cardigans and pretty blouses in sorbet colours. All of Peggy’s outfits are very prim and proper and perfectly put together which makes the trend great for the office, while keeping comfortable and feminine at the same time. A lot of the key pieces from Peggy’s wardrobe can be sourced from US store J Crew which can be found online.

The Betty Draper

Housewife and former model Betty Draper favours Dior-inspired full and flirty skirts which give her a cinched-in waist and curvy hips. Cool retro prints and on-the-knee lengths keep the look from feeling too dated. Finish the look with a slick of bright crimson lipstick for a beautifully polished look.

The Don Draper

Don typically dresses in sharp suits of deep charcoal and gunmetal and bright white dress shirts with a 2-inch-wide necktie.

Gresham Blake is an obvious choice for a good suit and shirt, but if you really are crazy about the look of the show, Brooks Brothers are selling a limited edition "Mad Men Edition" suit available throughout the season finale.
