I had a bit of a breakthrough at the weekend – I ran 14 miles.
I know I should be running further than this by now but for me this was a major milestone. It made me realise that I am capable of running long distances.
I had started to become so disheartened by the whole thing that I thought about packing it in at one stage last week. But I also know how cross I would have been with myself if I'd given up (I'm far too stubborn to do that).
We also made sure we had no choice but to run back by catching the train to West Worthing railway station and then running to Brighton along the coast, fuelled by energy gel and jelly babies.
I expected to be in agony on Sunday but apart from feeling a little sore on Saturday night I had no aches and pains at all. I am so glad that I invested in a good pair of running shoes.
I think I will probably be running and walking the course on marathon day and I’m not sure where I’m going to find another 12 miles, but I hope the atmosphere and adrenaline will help to carry me through.
