THE fight against controversial changes to hospital maternity services in East Sussex is still very much on.
Campaigners are considering taking legal action against the county’s health watchdog’s decision not to oppose the shake-up.
Changes mean Eastbourne District General Hospital only has a midwife-run maternity unit instead of a consultant-led one. Health bosses insist the move was on safety grounds but campaigners say women with high-risk pregnancies are potentially being put in danger because they have to travel further to St Leonards.
Campaigners want an independent review of the changes at the very least and are determined to take the fight to the wire.
Whatever happens in the future, it is clear this campaign group is not giving up or going away any time soon.
An independent review may end up being the best way to resolve this and bring this battle, which first began in 2007, to a conclusion.
