SOME 2,000 Sussex youngsters aged 14 to 25 have spoken about some of the problems they face.

Online bullying, easy access to drugs and tricky relationships with authorities are among the minefields they navigate.

Their representatives on the Sussex Youth Commission, chosen by the police and crime commissioner, have also come up with recommendations for how authorities can improve things.

Among them are a youth panel to work with police, making sure teachers are better trained to deal with cyber-bullying and not pushing young offenders together.

Young people are not often asked for their opinions and the wisdom they have shown suggests they should be asked more often.

Listening to them present their findings on Tuesday were police and council top bods.

Let’s hope the all the good intentions and ideas raised this week do not fall by the wayside once the novelty fades.

And that anyone else who can help – council, parents, schools – follow suit.
