Those involved in the mayor’s gala dinner at the weekend deserve a huge pat on the back.

The annual event was once again held at the Royal Pavilion with all money raised going to the chosen charities of the Brighton and Hove Mayor.

So far more than £17,000 has been raised.

It will be split between The Argus Appeal, The Martlets Hospice and Brighton Housing Trust.

In particular Mayor Brian Fitch and Sue Addis deserve special mention for their parts in the event.

We know from our work at The Argus Appeal how important events like the gala dinner are.

The money we receive from it will go a long way to transforming the lives of those less fortunate. Well done to everyone involved.
