It seems a terrible recurring tragedy that some of Brighton and Hove’s finest buildings are destined to stand empty and unused for years.

If it’s not the plight of the mighty Hippodrome that causes architecture lovers to shake their heads in despair, then the demise of the Astoria could well be responsible for bringing a tear to their eyes.

For years it was feared that you could add the Saltdean Lido to the list of Brighton and Hove’s treasures left to languish.

But today’s funding announcement, on the back of years of hard work from committed volunteers, seems to indicate a much more prosperous future for the iconic sea facing venue.

There’s still a lot more hard work to be done and money to be found, but the momentum is now gathering for a long-held dream to become a reality.

It is awe inspiring how a few determined individuals can help unite a community and oversee a project of this size.

Soon the only thing the lido restorers will need to worry about is nice clear skies and blazing hot sun overhead.
