A LARGE chunk of Brighton’s Old Town has gone on sale, which could signal the start of significant improvements for the area.

While The Lanes are famous for their higgledy piggledy charm, step outside on to North Street and it’s a different picture.

This is a once-in-a-generation chance to truly transform the area.

RBS had already pledged to offload the portfolio and there is still lots of work to do.

So while the price may seem high, it is actually a snip at £50 million.

The right buyer will have a great opportunity but with that will be great responsibility.

They must have a clear vision for this part of the city centre.

Any new gateway to The Lanes must give a nod to their history and character.
