THERE are interesting questions to be asked about how figures were presented in proposals to move Hove Library from the Carnegie building to Hove Museum.

The highest sum of costs to keep the library open were used while the lowest estimate for moving it into part of the museum were shown.

Campaigners would be right to think that does not smell quite right.

The more we hear about it the more we think it is right that they are reviewing the options before any decision is made which would seal the fate of the popular library.

And the more we hear the more the figures need to be looked at.

We need full transparency on this of all the costs because we need to know the proper details so that everyone can have a fully informed opinion.

The council has difficult and unpopular decision to make as money needs to be saved.

That is a thankless task. But as it stands we have been left guessing about what the costs really would be to save the library.

Thankfully some councillors have been in full voice over this and their concerns need to be fully addressed.

The philanthropist Andrew Carnegie provided the library for the betterment of everybody as a public building so it cannot be sold off for flats without proper discourse.

Claims that housing the library in the museum would create a site like Brighton's Jubilee Library are positive and the thought of other libraries closing to save Hove's does not sit well.

So there could be positive reasons to move.

Let us all have a clear understanding of the costs though before we lose such a wonderful building from public use.
