AFTER the agony and ecstasy of Friday morning (depending on which side you were on), we find ourselves at this point.

A Prime Minister has gone, the Labour leader is hanging on by his fingernails and Scotland wants another referendum on independence.

Despite what the David Cameron said outside Number 10 on Friday, we are on a captainless ship - and we are heading into choppy waters.

The Conservatives are leaderless as is Labour affectively and for many politicians, Brexit appears to be nothing more than an opportunity to advance their own careers.

The Argus has remained impartial throughout but if we are going to leave the EU - as the country has decided - then we should waste no time.

Whatever individual political parties need to sort out, they should do so quickly.

The priority for all right now should be the wellbeing of the country as a whole.

As Friday's result showed, we are very much a divided country.

You only have to spend a couple of minutes on Twitter or Facebook to see some of the vile insults being posted.

Now is a time to heal and to rebuild.

Now is not a time for political point scoring or for the trading of insults.

Whoever ends up going to the upcoming negotiations needs to with the best interests of Britain at heart - and nothing else.

The Government has trusted us to make this momentous decision.

We are now putting our trust in our politicians to see it through.
