NOBODY can fail to have been moved by yesterday’s shocking terrorism attack in the heart of London.

One police officer dead after being stabbed outside the Houses of Parliament.

Two other innocent members of the public sadly also lost their lives and at least 20 others were injured after the attacker drove into them in a car on Westminster Bridge.

What a dreadful and truly shocking episode.

The country will obviously be devastated at another terrorist attack.

Sadly though it wasn’t altogether unexpected after recent horror attacks in other countries.

For Hastings MP and now Home Secretary Amber Rudd this was the first attack since she took on her new role.

She was briefed by the Met Police shortly after and her words were very poignant: “We have the best police, the best security services in the world and we must make sure that we let them get on with doing their job.

“The British people will be united in working together to defeat those who would harm our shared values.

“Values of democracy, tolerance and the rule of law.”

Ms Rudd is right.

We cannot be defeated by terrorism.

We have to carry on with our everyday lives.

To do anything else would be wrong and letting the terrorists win.

And we must never let that happen.

At the same time we must all be on our guard whether we are in London, Brighton or elsewhere.

We all know that terrorists can strike anywhere and at any time. But they will not win.
