FRIDAY’S PubSpy column in The Argus has certainly caused a stir.

This is a new feature which has been introduced in our paper in recent months.

Every week our PubSpy goes out and about in the city trying out different venues.

As with most things, some are good, others not so good.

Well, last Friday’s article featured The County Oak in Hollingbury.

PubSpy was not impressed.

In fact he said it must be the worst pub in Brighton.

His shoes were covered in vomit before he had even gone through the front door.

A drunk collapsing across a chair.

RJ the bulldog was being blamed for a large fart.

And regulars were pulling down their trousers.

Need we go on.

The article went viral over the weekend attracting comments and attention from around the world.

Newspaper sales were also very high on Friday although that of course may have more to do with The Albion and indeed the fact that The Argus is proving more popular than it has done for a long time.

Reaction has been varied.

Some readers applaud PubSpy, others say it has no place in a respectable local newspaper.

Here at The Argus we firmly believe in representing the city and reporting on the good and bad.

PubSpy is new to The Argus but has been working in other areas of the country for many years.

He’s going nowhere, make no mistake about that.

And he will continue to offer a frank review of a local establishment every Friday in our paper.

Don’t miss it!
