TO BE honest here at The Argus we have not made huge news of the troubles at Southern lately for fear of repeating ourselves.

But the mess on the network cannot be allowed to continue unchecked.

It feels like Govia Thameslink Railway, the Government and the unions have let it all continue thinking people will accept what is going on.

The truth is very different though.

The commuters are still telling us how horrible it is to have to travel to work and rely on these services.

Many people moved to Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Newhaven, Seaford etc believing they could use the train network to commute.

The trains have been here for a long time so this was far from an unreasonable assumption.

But travelling has become such a hindrance that people have had to re-think their jobs and whether they can carry on going to London.

This whole mess is also affecting family life, with mothers and fathers stuck on the train.

Parents with young children will look back bitterly at how much time they missed thanks to the atrocious problems on the railway.

When their children are grown up and they are looking through their photo albums these mums and dads will remember the trouble they had getting home and it will still hurt.

When people are repeatedly late for work and get into trouble or even lose their job, that could have a knock-on effect on their whole life and the lives of their loved ones.

Let’s see some progress.
