TODAY’S paper includes dramatic photographs of the coastguard and RNLI rescuing a jet skier who crashed just off Seaford Head.

The man tried to get back on to his jet ski but was hit by another wave which crushed his leg against a rock.

Remarkably he managed to crawl out of the water and a friend called the emergency services, RNLI and coastguard who rushed to Seaford Head.

Giving his proximity to the cliffs and the extent of his injuries the rescue personnel had no other option but to winch him up the sheer cliff face.

All the while crew members were reassuring him and preparing for him to be rushed off to hospital.

Rescue crews praised the man for wearing a life jacket which they said saved his life.

However, they are calling on all jet skiers to take extra precautionary measures this summer by carrying a radio or mobile.

The photographs perhaps don’t do the operation justice.

It was a risky task but carried out to perfection by the crews who undoubtedly saved the young man’s life.

The word heroes gets bandied around a lot these days.

But members of the coastguard and RNLI really are heroes.

Many of them have other day jobs and volunteer to help out in their spare time.

They put their own lives on the line to rescue others.

Both organisations are always looking for help.

So if you want to make a real difference, then waste no time in contacting the RNLI and coastguard.
