HERE at The Argus we have long been a platform for people to raise concerns about the upkeep of our wonderful parks.

Often the most contentious issue has long been The Level. It received huge funding and is very popular as a result. But it has been dragged down by drug users and drinkers visiting the area, even dealing.

On too many occasions have we had to highlight parents’ concerns over needles being found there.

After making these repeated calls for improvements the news just last month about more CCTV, lighting and larger bins was fantastic.

And we give our full backing to more money now being made available to increase weekend management in our parks.

Readers have told us that toilets and bins get so much worse at the weekend and the investment and management to get people there has not been enough.

The city council has tight restrictions on how it can spend its money, and the amount it now has is difficult to share out.

So now that some more has become available it is good to see it being put to use. There is so much red tape in local government with meetings upon meetings that the chances to make quick decisions are few and far between.

We voted these councillors in so lets see them putting things into action quickly when they can. They just need to remember that all these decisions should be done for residents, like in the case of parks. That makes the money towards unions more difficult to understand for some. But we all love the parks so if the money is there then go for it so that we can enjoy them in the sun while this glorious summer continues.
