Is Fred Burgess (Letters, December 19), effectively saying we should go on abusing animals as we wouldn’t know what to do with them if we suddenly stopped eating meat, dairy and eggs?
If everyone in the UK went vegan, we would actually cut the land used to produce food by two-thirds.
The area currently being used for crops in the UK is 4.7 million hectares. Only 3 million hectares would be required to feed the entire UK population a vegan diet.
