The company Alaska has taken great pains with its plans to restore The Hippodrome (The Argus, January 14) and to make proposed internal changes removable without spoiling the historic structure.
Having taken so much trouble with the interior, the architects seem to have gone on an ego trip with their plans for the cinema entrance in Ship Street.
Ship Street is a jewel of good townscape: a mixture of buildings of different designs, linked by scale, materials or window shapes and sizes so the street is “all of a piece”.
The proposed cinema entrance in Ship Street is like a foreign body dropped into this beautiful streetscape. Please can the architects think again and show some respect for the rest of Ship Street.
