I write in response to the letter by Peter Chapman (The Argus, April 9) who discusses the income of protesters at the Balcombe gas drilling site.
Perhaps he is still living in the Dark Ages by questioning their income and whether they are on benefits.
It may have escaped his attention but a protester can, if unemployed, still look for work from a laptop or smartphone while sitting in a tent.
In addition, they have a right to protest. Some see it as their duty.
And don’t forget they may have jobs and be using annual leave.
Also, let’s not forget, in the case of any pensioners at this protest, they have the time and right to spend their days as they please.
Or would Mr Chapman like to see their time curtailed and their pensions stopped?
