As the elections approach in 2015, I assume we will see more tedious letters from Jeanne and David Lepper. The latest from David (The Argus, April 5) takes Brighton and Hove City Council to task for issues the city is facing with regards to the emptying of bins and recycling rates falling.
What Mr Lepper fails to mention is that since the Green administration was elected the local authority has suffered unprecedented cuts enforced by this Tory-led Government.
The resulting enforced cost-cutting has led to five bin lorries being removed from service and numerous incidents of the remaining vehicles breaking down due to age and a lack of maintenance.
In fact, I am reliably informed by a member of the local GMB that some of the remaining dustcarts should not even be on the streets.
Mr Lepper should bear in mind that it was under a Labour administration, and under his watch as an MP, that Brighton earned the epithet “Skid-Row-on-Sea”.
Voters in our city would do well to remember this come next May.
