Further to your centre spread (April 9) about the new school being developed in Holland Road, this letter is written with regards to the impact it will have on the residents who live around it.

I no longer live in Holland Road. I live in Cuckfield now.

I used to live next door to Young Friends nursery in Holland Road, which has applied for a licence to accommodate 68 children. It has 33 children at the moment.

I don’t know whether it has been granted permission yet because the council does not seem to worry about informing any residents of the outcome of things like this.

Our garden backed on to Sommerhill School and Davigdor School, which have increased in size over the years. The final straw was the announcement of a new primary school opposite on the site of the old police station. That’s when I had to move away.

The noise and the parking situation is appalling now, without another 500 mothers trying to drop off their children every day.

Where on earth are the 40 staff going to park? Nearly every day my son, who now lives in my house, has an argument with someone dropping their child to the nursery who thinks it’s OK to park over the drive, so what will it be like with all the new traffic? Holland Road will be gridlocked.

I know we need new schools but I feel the council has not taken into consideration the impact this number of children will have on such a small residential area.

I hope there will be a good traffic management system in place.

I will be very interested in the comments of the residents of Palmeira Avenue as they now have a school play area literally in front of their balconies. Their peace and privacy are being totally compromised.

On a final note, as these houses will be surrounded by three schools and a nursery, do you think the council will reduce my band G council tax? I think not!
