In a letter to The Argus (April 11), Ian Taylor of Hove states that the local authority, Brighton and Hove City Council, has suffered unprecedented cuts enforced by the Tory-led Government, and that this has led to five bin lorries being removed from the Brighton and Hove rubbish collection service with numerous incidents of the remaining vehicles breaking down due to age and a lack of maintenance.

How odd this seems to those of us who live just over the border in Adur where, despite these “unprecedented cuts”, our rubbish collection service continues to go from strength to strength.

My wife Margaret and I have lived in Lancing for more than ten years and, to the best of my memory, there have never been any strikes, any go-slows or any missed collections – just a first-class service operated by a polite and pleasant work force.

The excuse, Mr Taylor, that it’s all the fault of central Government is a rubbish excuse; if Adur can carry out this task efficiently, why can’t Brighton and Hove?

Could it be that, unlike Brighton, we in Adur have an efficient council working hand-in-hand with a motivated workforce?
