A report issued on April 6 by the House of Lords EU Committee, Counting The Cost Of Food Waste, called for urgent action from the Government and retailers as we continue to waste 15 million tons of food per year in the UK.
At Brighton and Hove Food Partnership, we welcome this report and continue to campaign at a local level to reduce our food waste footprint.
Local residents often share their concerns with us over supermarket practices, so a concerted effort from supermarkets to reduce the amount of waste they cause, coupled with making their positive changes known to their customers, would go a long way in unifying both consumer and retailer responsibility in reducing food waste.
The Food Partnership runs workshops across the city, helping you reduce your waste, make the most of your leftovers and to understand date labels and food storage.
