How odd that in his letter about the “bedroom tax” and the “gagging” law, Green Party councillor Christopher Hawtree attacks me and the Labour Party with not a mention of the Conservatives and the coalition which brought in the legislation.

For the avoidance of doubt, Labour is pledging to repeal both these laws.

But only a Labour government will do that, so it is important that Labour MPs should be elected in all three of Brighton and Hove’s constituencies.

As for his talk of the “moral high ground”, for many people Coun Hawtree is remembered as someone who campaigned as the champion of public libraries before he was elected and then, once on the council, backed the Green Party move to axe the city’s mobile library service last year.
