Reading Purna Sen talking about repealing the “bedroom tax” and Labour’s pledges (Letters, April 15), I find the idea hilarious.

Let me remind Labour and all Argus readers: it wasn’t a coalition tax but a Labour Party tax.

Remember Labour’s pledge that the NHS was safe in their hands? Look what happened there with the PFI contracts estimated to cost us, the taxpayer, £40-45 billion over the next 20 years.

Then the privatisation contracts and the £13 billion wasted on a failed IT system and, let’s not forget, the Mid-Staffs debacle. NHS tourism. The NHS safe in Labour’s hands? Laughable.

Then the Lisbon Treaty opening up uncontrolled immigration, leaving workers’ salaries actually lowered. And housing shortages, welfare tourism, schools and services at breaking point and one million young people out of work.

Does Labour pledge to keep up the coalition’s good work? Yes, it has already said it would keep austerity so there’s nothing different about Labour, just the same old, same old, “Let’s blame the Tory-led coalition.” You can’t trust Labour.
