I write regarding the letter about the school pig being sent for slaughter and to be eaten (Letters, April 14).

A topic which concerns me greatly amid the great meat debate is the fact that vast amounts of the meat we buy in supermarkets and from fast food outlets is slaughtered using halal methods, which the RSPCA condemns as cruel, yet it is not labelled as such.

I think all meat slaughtered by halal or kosher methods should be labelled as such so consumers can have the option of not buying it.
