I respond to the letter from Superintendent Wilson (The Argus, April 15) about travellers.
We can argue the finer points of common law and statute law until the cows come home.
At this stage I will only say that his interpretation of common law is different from my training as a police officer many years ago.
However, nothing can alter the fact that every year 500 Brighton and Hove residents might just as well put their council tax in the fire and burn it.
It is a major problem, not only for Brighton and Hove but all over the country.
Perhaps our three MPs might like to explain to us why Parliament has done nothing to solve a problem which, nationwide, is costing millions in taxpayers’ money that could be used for better purposes.
