Ben James’s article (Argus August 2) highlights the increase by irresponsible individuals who shine/aim laser beams at aircraft.

Ben’s article reminded me of the letter I sent to The Argus in July 2012.

The airline pilots association and public must bring pressure on Government to introduce legislation about the sale of lasers to the public.

Since I wrote my letter there has been an increase in members of the public able to obtain lasers.

Pilots of all airlines would like to see the Government introduce a ban.

Does the safety of aircrafts have to wait for Government to legislate or do the public have to wait until another catastrophe occurs like the Malaysian airline disaster which occurred when a rocket launcher came into the hands of ill trained combatants?

The Government has just introduced energy legislation to accelerate gas fracking.

Why is the Government so reluctant to introduce legislation to ban the sale of lasers?

Perhaps the Prime Minister should experience being dazzled by a laser as he drives his car along a motorway!
