How I do so agree with your correspondent Doug Coupe (Argus, August 6) regarding the money-making antics of recent Prides.

I was a regular Gay Pride goer since those early halcyon days until recent times when charges started to be made to go into a public park.

This I refuse to pay and have not attended since the Park Tax came into being. Likewise I did not go to the street party (which I normally do) because of the new found street tax.

The current Pride organisers should also be aware that the London Prides were always free until their committee introduced charges for the parks. This did not last long however and the park parties came to an end.

I have been informed also from friends who did pay this extortionate Park Tax that once inside apart from having to buy food from park outlets only (not allowed any more to take their own picnics) they had to pay to get into the various cabaret tents that held headliner acts.

This was something I had not noticed broadcast by the Pride Committee.

Pride has become a victim of its own success and should be allowed to fade away gently as the only benefit it seems is going to the concession holders who must really be coining it.

Like Doug I also ask who gets all this money apart from the amount donated to charities.
