I read your headline ‘Parking blitz success’ in total disbelief.

Who is trying to fool who? Having complained on numerous occasions about pavement parking on Kingsway to the police, council and parking attendants, it pleased me when the council announced its intended purge on those who selfishly park on pedestrian territory.

But nothing has happened. Daily there are at the very least three cars on that stretch of pavement.

Ironically, it being adjacent to a taxi rank, a local cab was parked on the pavement there too a few days ago.

I have since contacted the police again and received a telephone call from an officer who assured me that they have no powers to prosecute pavement parkers unless the offenders are causing an obstruction to pedestrians.

I don’t remember being told that when I took driving lessons all those years ago.

A parking attendant also told me recently that they are not meant to issue parking tickets to those who park there.

I tried calling the council but was unable to get past the automated phone system.

Call me cynical, but do I sense something very wong here?
