Dora Bryan was just like the characters she portrayed in films and on TV – kind, funny and caring.

I remember many years ago attending a fete in Brighton which Dora was opening.

We had with us an elderly lady who, sadly, was suffering from slight dementia.

On seeing an empty chair our friend made a bee-line for it, sat down and started to help herself to the goodies on offer.

Unfortunately, it happened to be the ‘top table’ for the celebrities. I was mortified, and tried to get our friend to move.

“Don’t worry dear,” said Dora, “leave her with us. We will look after her, go and look round the stalls, she will be safe here.”

When we returned, she was chatting away to Dora, not having the slightest idea who she was. “What a nice lady,’’ our friend said.

Thank you Dora. God bless.
