ONCE upon a time a large black bin appeared in our street. This was for household waste only. Very welcome.

Much later a medium sized black bin appeared in the street next to the big one. This was for plastic, cardboard and newspapers but not for glass.

The recycling bins for glass are streets away and of course not easy for the elderly or disabled people.

But lo and behold a smaller black bin arrived for glass only. Great. Here the story has a sad turn.

Each morning I sort out the rubbish I’ve collected into three separate bags – one for each bin.

The bin for glass is always full day after day spilling into the street. The medium bin is generally full and often can only be entered by using dynamite.

So the big black bin gets all the goodies because it is regularly emptied and lives happily ever after.
