We have recently received our ‘consultation’ package with reference to the implementation of a 20mph speed limit in our locality.

I feel the same about this ‘consultation’ as Sue Addis (Argus, August 22:) ‘They may even hold a public enquiry and ignore the result of that too but then they know best’.

Why would the council want to waste money on a consultation when they have already decided the outcome?

This will then be implemented by March 2015 just before the local elections for which many of the Greens are not standing.

When I was learning to drive I was told to aim to be in fourth gear as quickly as possible, as this was best for 1) fuel consumption 2) the mechanics of the car and 3) producing less exhaust fumes.

The sign at Portslade level crossing requests you turn your engine off to reduce pollution when waiting at the gates, suggesting that the slower the engine turnover the more exhaust fumes.

It is impossible to drive in fourth gear at 20mph so presumably in the coming years residential areas in the city will see an increase in asthma sufferers?

If the Greens want to improve our residential areas perhaps they could start by removing the 18” – 2 ft weeds that are growing among the paving slabs in our locality causing the stones to rise and providing trip hazards for the many elderly residents.
