What is all this costing?

What is all this costing?

I live in Hangleton and we have just received the ‘20mph pack’ from the council.

I thought the council always had problems balancing their books, either needing to make cuts or needing to increase our tax so what I would like to know is how much is it all costing ie painting the 20mph on the roads, putting up signs at both ends of a street, the printing and postage of all these ‘consultation forms and not to mention the administration incurred.

Is there anyone who can give me a breakdown of these costs, and can the council tell us why it feels it is essential to fork out this money on something which most people don’t want and when there is so much financial hardship ?

I read an article in yesterday's Daily Express stating ministers have been urged to stop the roll out of 20mph speed limits due to an increase of serious accidents in 20mph zones by 26% and minor accidents by 17%. I wonder if B &HCC will continue with this unwanted increase in 20mph zones and still claim that there has been a decrease in accidents!

The Express tell you that was just one extra death?

Did they also mention whether the driver involved had been speeding? A total of 6 people died in 20mph zones in the last measurable year.

More to the point - when it costs the taxpayer over £15 billion a year to deal with death and injury on the roads why not spend a little in making the road safer and making it 20 in places:

I live in Hangleton too. Traffic on side roads already goes at about only 20 mph anyway so this is a waste of time and money.

It's the poor old Greens being obsessed with their off-the-do-gooder-en
vironmentalist-shelf policies. They would have done better to have focused on the agreed needs of B&H and concerns of the electorate,, not the bees in their personal bonnets.

If just one life is saved over 3 years the council will have saved money.

Also they should be more proactive in fining these anti-social drivers who insist on breaking the law constantly. You could net around a grand every hour if you fined the cars going above 30mph £50 and the ones going over 40mph (5% of traffic) should have to pay much more and lose points.

Yes, but if you peoples' backs up and they ignore it then vote the Greens out and the policy is dropped by others ...... not enforced by funding-cut police anyway ...... little is achieved ...... and around here it would be difficult to do even 20 anyway ...... and idiot transgressor will speed anyway.

The Greens become discredited and all their policies likewise ..... it's counterproductive.
